$1,000 bond issued in 1870. Locks and dams were built along the Coal River and navigation began in 1858. The company was reorganized after the Civil War in 1865, and rebuilt the dams and locks. The river reopened from 1867- 1881 (Report of U.S. Army Engineers, 1931). The bond is in good condition and has 19 coupons at the bottom.
