The North American Company was a railroad holding company organized in New Jersey in 1890, controlled by Henry Villard. The Oregon and Transcontinental Company took advantage of new expanded corporate powers legislated in New Jersey and reincorporated there as the North American Company. By 1940, the company controlled about 80 companies and was broken up by regulators in 1946. At that time, the company controlled many of the largest utility companies in the United States. 1-2) Two certificates from North American Company (NJ) issued in 1893. Eagle vignette.
