An unbelievable set of items from Cripple Creek. First, The Official Manual of the Cripple Creek District Colorado, U.S.A. Vol. I. A.D. 1900. Published by Fred Hills, E.M., Colorado Springs, Colo. 495 pages with color. Includes large map Showing the Surface Holdings of the Mining Companies in the Cripple Creek Mining District. Map has tape repairs. Book includes index to mining companies and a general history of the area. Each company has a detailed entry including diagrams of the claims. What makes this copy of this scarce book even more amazing is that it was the personal copy of H.J. Gehm, a man involved with many mining companies in Cripple Creek, including Vindicator Cons. G. M. Co., Republic G. M. Co., the Delmonico Mine, Mary Nevin G. M. Co., and the Colorado Trading and Transfer Co., among others. This copy has pen and pencil markings indicating that Gehm was actively using it as a resource. Condition: front and back boards have become detached from pages and have dirt and other wear. Pages are mostly bright; some have bends in bottom corners. In addition to the book, a letter from the publisher, Fred Hills, to A.E. Carlton, another central mining and financial figure in Cripple Creek. The letter is Hills' pitch for the book to Carlton and comes on the official letterhead for the book. Lastly, four A.E. Carlton checks are included (spanning 1898-1901). Wonderful collection of Colorado mining history!City: Cripple CreekCounty: TellerState: CODate: 1900
