Borax Smith, after making a fortune in Death Valley mining, moved to Oakland and became a leading community fixture. He was president of this real estate development corporation. Owning 56 miles of street railway systems, the Syndicate made $30-40,000 a month just from the trains. The brochure has pictures of their real estate holdings and testimonials from investors, a list of the affluent population of turn of the 20th century Oakland. Also a preferred stock certificate dated 1899 issued to Lydia Andrews. Prag Collection.
