The South Park Line Denver, Leadville and Gunnison Railway Pass dated 1898. Issued to Fred S. Rockwell and signed by Frank Trumbull, receiver and general manager. No. D116. The line ultimately extended from Denver to the Baldwin/Caselton areas near Gunnison. From Denver, it went up the valley of the South Platte River to South Platte, then to Buffalo Creek & Bailey to Como through South Park to Garo, Fairplay and Alma. As such, it serviced many of Colorado's central mining districts during their boom years. They originally entered a deal in 1880 with Jay Gould and the Denver & Rio Grande regarding a line to Leadville from Buena Vista. Gould decided that the D&RG would build the line and the DSP&P could share the rights, as long as the DSP&P would build the line into Gunnison County via Chalk Creek and share rights. The agreement was ended in 1884, and DSP&P built their own line into Leadville, crossing the Continental Divide twice. Very nice pass. Please see photos front and back.
