Waite, Edward. The Washington Directory, and Congressional and Executive Register, for 1850. E. Waite, 1850._x000D_

Compiled by Edward Waite, Washington, Columbus Alexander Printer 1850. 242 pages. Two ink inscriptions, one inside the front cover and one inside the back cover are of interest._x000D_

Inside the back cover, where a fly page is missing, is written, “Z Taylor president.” This autograph should be checked to see if this is the signature of Zachary Taylor, and if this directory was the property of Zachary Taylor at one time. Upon inspection of the autograph there is a separation between the "Y" and the "L," typical of Taylor’s actual autograph, and there are strong similarities to the T and the Z. However, when one looks at the vast array of original Zachary Taylor autograph photographs on the web, it’s easy to see that there is a large variation in his signature over time. This piece should be inspected by an autograph expert in detail. This volume is split along the middle of the spine at the place where the maps of the Senate Chamber are. Front board is detached and secured by tape. This is an extremely rare document._x000D_ City: State: District of Columbia Date: 1850
