1) Branch Mint Mining & Milling Company gold bond. 1903. # 174. Signed by Taylor and president Hardin. Sharp blue on bright white. One vertical fold. Extremely nice condition with no edge, orner, discoloration or pin hole issues. Six 'interest paid' stamps on back. 2) Branch Mint Mining & Milling Company Stock. # 2929 for 100 shares to August Brombacker. 1907. Signed by TF McKay and JS Hardin as president. Black and brown on green safety paper. Eagle vignette. No edge, corner, pin hole of discoloration issues. Branch Mint Operating Company. 3) # 16 for 60 shares to Aug. Brombacker. 1908. Signed by McKay and president John (?). Incorporated 1908. Two underground mining vignettes bookend a mountain valley scene, Black and green on white. Hardin was a great promoter and smooth talker. He stared a half dozen companies in the Black Hills and was able to sell stock in all back east and in Europe. Hardin’s paper empire began to crumble in the early 1900s.Hardin purchased the Old Bench Mint mine and soon raised enough money for 2,500 acres of land. His Hoodoo Union Hill mine produced $150,000 in gold alone in 1900. He sonne ahd more than 100 men working hsi mines. In 1909 the Bench Mint Mining and Milling Company went into receivership. He had produced $500,000, but it was not enough to cover his expenses. Ken Prag Collection
