Lot of 3 different. These are great examples of how mines combined their efforts in the 1870s-90s to sink shafts and explore the deepest levels of the Comstock Lode. 1) Gould & Curry & Best & Belcher Joint Shaft. Nevada Bank of San Francisco. RN-G. Printed by GT Brown & Co., noted African-American lithographer. Issued to the Pacific Wood, Lumber & Flume Co. Signed by supt. Penoyer. This combination was formed in 1876. 2) Chollar-Norcross-Savage Shaft Co. Issued to HC Heinrichs in 1884. Signed by noted supt. Isaac Requa. Punch hole and spindle cancel. This shaft, also known as the Combination Shaft, was once the deepest mining shaft in the US. It reached 3,250 ft. deep in the mid-1880s. Flooding forced them to abandon the lower levels. 3) Union Shaft Company (ms. over North Con. Virginia Mining Co.). Nevada Bank of SF. RN-G. Issued in 1879 to Wheeler Hall & Co. Signed by supt. Thos. Rooney. The Union Mine was located at the north end of the Comstock Lode. In the late 1870s, the mine was taken over by the Bonanza Firm. They combined efforts with the Sierra Nevada and Mexican mines.
