The Gold Mountain district was discovered in 1866 with the first ore shipped from the Oriental in 1871. Ore was originally processed by arrastras and the district is accredited with about $500,000 in production. There were three main companies working in the district in the 1880's: Oriental, Miller Gold Mountain and State Line. The Miller Gold Mountain is the scarcest of the three companies.1) Oriental Gold Mining Company, stock no. A86. Issued to D. F. Derdenal, Trustee for 50 shares, 1881. Signed by D. F. Derdenal. Beautifully engraved certificate has an ornate border around it with a vignette of a miner leaning on his pick with attractive mountainous scene behind. 2) Miller Gold Mining Company, stock no. A1684. Issued to C. F. Martin for 50 shares, 1881. Signed by Wm. McCaulley, president and D. F. Derdenal, secretary. Beautiful vignette of miners working in mine.3) State Line Gold Mining Company No. 4, stock no. A2229. Issued to C. F. Martin for 50 shares, 1881. Signed by Leo Shryrell, president and D. F. Derdenal, secretary. The certificate has an ornate border around it with a vignette of an explorer on horseback. (Prag Collection)
