Two of the checks are made payable to the First National Bank in Colorado Springs, while the third is payable to the Denver branch. All are for large amounts: $13,500, $15,300, and $48,600! All three signed by Frank M. Downer as Assayer/Superintendent in Charge. Stamp and punch cancelled. On Feb. 1, 1906, under Downer's management, the U.S. Mint at Denver struck its first coins using three coining presses. (Prag Collection)
