Three unlisted chips from Winnemucca. Monte's Club, $0.25, $5, $25. Monte's Club is known to token collectors for their octagonal aluminum token. But these gaming chips are a new discovery. Apparently, a few 25 cent chips were found in Nevada recently, but the larger denominations were not known. None are listed in any of the gaming chip reference works. Monte's Club ran from about 1952 to about 1961, located at 251 Bridge Street. It was previously known as the Ideal Club. Both outfits used the same phone number, "56". Fermin Montero owned the Ideal (also a saloon), and when he died, "it is likely that his brother in law Miguel Larraguetta and his son Mike took over the club and renamed it Monte's, which may have been Fermin's nickname. Today, the site is the Club Barber Shop.
