Lot of 5 items from the Holabird Collection, featured in his bottle book. There is a very rare Reno embossed whiskey bottle known for this merchant. 1) 1907 Christmas leather wallet for The Crystal, 16 West Second St., Reno, Nevada, Thyes & Reese. 2) 1899 letterhead for HJ Thyes, Reno. 3-4) Two different tokens for The Crystal bar in Reno, both Reese & Regan. 5) Knights of Pythias card for HJ Thyes, 1880s. Herman Thyes came to California during the Gold Rush with his family. He came to Reno in the mid 1870s and worked for Elia Chielovich at the saloon the Wine House. In 1880, Thyes began his own saloon, liquor, and wine business under the name "Chase & Thyes." When he bought out his partner, it became known as the Crystal Saloon, HJ Thyes & Co. He was also a member (and once chief) of the Reno Fire Department. Thyes retired in 1916. For more info, see Nevada Bottle Book Volume 2.
