Tiffany "Zodiac" Desk Set Copper/Bronze (3items) w/RARE Inkwell!
Tiffany Studios, New York, Zodiac pattern presents the 12 signs of the Zodiac. The pattern was affordable, offered the widest variety of pieces to choose from and came in 12 different finishes, such as gold, copper, brown, green, silver plate and others. There is great variation in patinas and finishes, and changes were made in the chemical and metallurgical processes employed by maker over a 30+ year period, making it nearly impossible to specify the exact finish for every piece. Please examine photos carefully.

Rarity (R) ratings are provided according to the chart in William Holland's comprehensive reference on Tiffany Desk Sets. (Ref: Tiffany Desk Sets; 2008, William Holland). PLEASE SEE OTHER TIFFANY DESK SETS IN THIS SALE FOR MORE INFORMATION.

This lot contains 3 pieces in the popular Zodiac pattern. The numbered pieces in this lot are all stamped "Tiffany Studios, New York" unless otherwise noted. Measurements are given in inches.

#1041 Match Holder and Ashtray, 4.4 x 3.5 x 4.5, unmarked (pre-1902) R-1
# 943 Calendar, 8 x 7, R-2 (copper, probably cleaned)
# 1072 Inkwell , large 12- sided 6.75 diameter, original glass insert. Two varieties of this large inkwell were produced with slight variations to size and design; rarity ratings differ substantially depending on variety with the more common R-1 variety measuring 6.5 x 6.5 x 3 and the other, Rarely seen, R-6 variety having a 6.75" diameter and "3-nib compartment doors". This inkwell measures 6.75" at the widest part of the body, but does not appear to have additional "doors". It is not clear if this is possibly another variation or custom made piece, or an irregular size of the common variety.
