Scarce, stock certificate book from the Tonopah Aspen Mining Company. The Tonopah Aspen mine was located at the north end of the district, surrounded by the Black Diamond, Buckeye, Defender and Scorpion claims (from Britton & Rey map of the district, 1902). Includes 27 issued and cxled certificates from 1903, 12 from 1906, and 6 certificates issued between 1907 and 1927. There are 41 issued and cxled certificates reattached to the original stubs in the book. Also remaining are unissued certificates #176-200. Many of the certificates were issued to and signed by the company president, T.J. Lamoureaux, and also signed by G. Harold Sargent as treasurer. The company was incorporated in Delaware. The certificates have printed down the left side, "Mines Located at Tonopah, Nye County, Nevada". Only about 1/3 of the original certificates are here, with the first one returned being #37. Stub #7 shows that 400,000 shares were issued to Lamoureaux and stub #8 shows that 199,900 were issued to W. Hinkle Smith, Bourse, Philadelphia. Smith was a wealthy Philadelphia capitalist who directed many companies in different states (Kansas University archives). There is some damage to the spine and some of the certificates have rough edges or browning. Stock certificate books from Tonopah or Goldfield rarely if ever show up, so this is a great find.
