No. 792, issued for 500 shares to Al Smith on June 30th, 1904. Signed by Key Pittman as vice-president and the secretary. Both signatures punch cancelled. Three mining vignettes. Some toning and folds. 5.5" x 10" Key Pittman (1872-1940) was a lawyer, politician, and mining man who is a part of Nevada legends due to his lifestyle and death. Raised in the South, Pittman studied law before heading to the Alaska gold fields to strike it rich. He was unsuccessful but became known and respected for his mining law practice. He came to Nevada in 1902 and had his legal services sought after by the mining companies in Tonopah. He ran for the senate in 1910 but lost a close election to George Nixon. When Nixon died in 1912, Pittman won the special election to become a US Senator representing Nevada. He died only five days after being elected for his six straight term. A widely-spread hoax was that Pittman had died before the election and the Democratic Party had hid his body in a bathtub full of ice at a hotel in Reno. This has been debunked. Pittman did have a wild reputation due to his drinking problems. State: Nevada City: Tonopah Date: 1904 FHWAC#: 42117
