Edward Robert Slavin was born in 1906 to American parents in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution. His family soon returned stateside and settled in Tonopah where he worked in the mining industry for many years of his life. According to the note in this collection of ~25 small mineral samples, Slavin gathered these in 1925. They are all silver ore and probably all from the Mizpah Mine in Tonopah. Other notes indicate the presence of iodargyrite and chlorargerite. All the specimens appear to have been labeled at some point, but many of the tiny stickers have dried and fallen off. Those that remain attached at the time of describing this lot have been individually bagged, and the unlabeled ones are packaged together with the loose labels. Various paper notes are included for the winning bidder to discern their relevance and meaning regarding the specimens. A transcript of a 1987 oral history interview with Ed Slavin conducted by the Nye County Town History Project is available online at https://archive.org/details/InterviewWithEdwardSlavin/mode/2up.
