This 1909 pass was issued to John Ryan, the General Manager of the Tonopah and Tidewater Co. Ryan was an employee and close friend of the mining tycoon Francis Marion "Borax" Smith. Smith considered Ryan to be one of his most trusted friends so much in fact that Smith named the mining town of Ryan, after his dear friend. Later, Ryan was the General Manager of the Pacific Coast Borax Co. His signature is located on the back of the pass.City: TonopahCounty: State: NVDate:
