Rare and historic California oil stock issued in 1894. The Torrey Canon Oil Company was incorporated in 1889 with Thomas R. Bard as president (who signs here). Cert. #15 is issued to the Hardison and Stewart Oil Company. Bard, Hardison and Stewart merged together the Torrey Canon Oil Company, the Sespe Oil Company (both owned by Bard) along with the Hardison & Stewart Oil Company into the Union Oil Company of California. Union Oil Company moved their headquarters to Los Angeles in 1901. The original headquarters in Santa Paula are a California Historical Landmark. Thomas R. Bard assisted in the formation of Ventura County and was a U.S. Senator from California from 1900 to 1905. He is also known as "The Father of Port Hueneme" for his work to build a deepwater port there. This is very likely the most historic Southern California oil stock we've ever seen. Red pen canceled.
