TWA operated from 1930-2001. Acquired by Howard Hughes in 1939 expanding the airpline after WWII. Under Hughes the airline suffered poor image and after Anti-Trust suit Hughes sold out in 1966. President Charles Tillinghurst tried to save the airline through contracts with NASA and purchase of Hilton Hotels. The airline, despite small successes, continued to spiral down after the Hughes sell off by poor management, airline deregulation, aircraft accident killing 230 passengers and three bankruptcies finally closing 2001 despite having regained a good reputation with business travelers.
