Nelson Seymour Trowbridge was a youngster growing up during the California Gold Rush. Needless today he was interested in mining. He moved to Nevada in 1871. He tried to open a general merchandise store in Eureka, but the competition was well established. So he moved to Tybo. His mercantile store, N. S. Trowbridge & Company, was a hit. The major mine owed them so much money, Trowbridge became the owner by default. He soon was the major merchant and miner in the town and the Hot Creek area.
