$1.00 Per Dozen / Will Be Charged For All / Soda Bottle Short in this Case / Unless the Stoppers are Saved. / Chas. Thomas,---Truckee Soda Works. Black print on yellow cardboard. 7.25 x 12" Holes, heavy soiling (more noticeable on reverse), chipped and detached corners. Ultra-rare. Truckee Soda Works operated in Truckee from 1885 to 1921. Charles Thomas was likely the first soda manufacturer in Truckee. He came to California during the Gold Rush and moved to Truckee in 1868. He opened a small soda works in 1885, during Truckee's exciting 1880s period. After the failure of the Saint Louis Brewery in Truckee and the nearby Boca Brewery, Thomas decided to also open his own brewery in the late 1890s. He kept the soda works until health problems forced him to sell it to M.S. Franzini in 1921. Two soda bottles are known from the Truckee Soda Works, both embossed Hutchinson style aquas.
