This series shows Hawkins being escorted up the stairs of the gallows in the first shot, followed by 4 views of Hawkins on the gallows stage. The first view is of Hawkins smoking his last cigar, the next is the reverend Peter Timmerman reciting last rights, the next view is under sheriff Henry Myers at far left and sheriff Nabor Pacheco at right with Hawkins under the noose, and the final view is sheriff Pacheco placing the noose over Hawkins head. It is thought that there are no known views of the actual hanging itself as it may not have been allowed. E.W. Hawkins was hanged on Aug. 14, 1908 for the murder of Albert Leonhardt on Dec. 23, 1907. Hawkins and his wife were arrested on charge of a burglary when he confessed to the murder. Tucson Arizona
