Four unpublished panoramas. 17 x 6 1/2". Viewable on both sides of frame. 1) Toulon Mill on the Southern Pacific railroad line. 2) The town, offices, mine, and mill buildings at Tungsten. 3) Close up of the mill on the hill and the railroad tracks. 4) View of the Nevada desert below Tungsten. Town has been identified by a site visit. The mill and mine are closed down, but still ready to restart as there is a 24 hour guard there. Stone foundations of the office buildings are still present. The Tungsten deposits in these hills were discovered in 1917. In the early 1930’s this area produced most of the nation’s tungsten. As many as 280 men were employed here during World War II. For nearly three decades this area consistently produced and ore was regularly shipped. It remained one of the most important tungsten mines in the United States.
