Rough turquoise - Grade 2.5. Average size of pieces is from 1"-2" diameter. Approximate weight 8.2 pounds. From No. 8 turquoise mine, located in Eureka county, north of Carlin, Nevada. The historic deposit was discovered in 1925 and first mined in 1929. Number 8 mine closed in 1976. The last owner of the mine was Dowell Ward. He mined a giant stockpile of high-quality turquoise that through today is still on the market. The turquoise from that stockpile is looked at as one of the premier turquoises ever discovered.
