Rough turquoise - Grade 2.5, fair color, some treated, some spider web, a few cut. Approximate weight 6.8 pounds. From No. 8 turquoise mine, located in Nevada, often considered one of the top turquoise mines in the world. The mine, in Eureka county, north of Carlin, Nevada, was discovered in 1925 and first mined in 1929. The turquoise from this mine is unique and easy to spot. It is mostly composed of a matrix of spider web type with varieties of black to gold brown and color grades of extremely dark blue to light blue, sometimes green. It closed in 1976, making the turquoise mined there highly collectible. Largest piece about 4" x 2" x 1", smallest about .5" x .5" x .25".
