1) Malachite Mining Company of Colorado. 1877. Cert #75. Incorporated in Maine. Issued to R Puffin(?) trustee for 5 shares in 1877. Underground mining vignette. Also a Colorado Shield with Native American female vignette. Black border and print. Cancelled. Rare Jefferson County mining company. Works can treat 5 tons daily. Located on the Colorado Central Railroad and in the limits of Golden. [The Colorado Directory of Mines: Containing a Description of the Mines by Corbett]. Miner Boy Mining Company. 1881. No. 3785, issued for 100 shares to JF Sword in 1881. Signed by president AA McLeod. Vignette of miners with headlamps using drills. Green background is rather unique! Printed by the Hatch Lith. Co. Folds, bent corners. Located on Breece Hill, California Mining District. The mine was discovered on March 27, 1879 by Peter Conley, M.C. Kennedy, James Dahoney, etc., who sold it on June 17, 1879 to A.A. McLeod for $75,000. The mine soon had three shafts, down 490 ft., 5 levels and 250 ft. of drifts producing 20 tons per day. Assays showed 1029 ozs. silver per ton, and 945 ozs. gold per ton. The minerals produced were pyrargyrite, free gold, and tetrahedrite. By 1880 the mine was employing 35 miners with assaying showing 600 ounces of gold per ton [Ref: Griswold, 1996; Corregan & Lingane, pg. 427]
