1) Copper Emperor Mining Company. 1883. Beautiful Arizona Territorial, cert. #99, issued for 500 shares to Robert Oldenburg and signed by D.L. Brown as president and Chas. Oldenburg as secretary. Two nice mining vignettes and large gold underprint stating "Shares $10 Each". This co. incorporated in Wisconsin. This company was obviously a group from Milwaukee that started a company to mine in Arizona. We could not find anything in our references about this company. This certificate was not in the Filer or Garbani auction, and the company is not listed in Garbani's book. Very certificate any very attractive. Uncancelled. 2) Milwaukee Gold & Silver Mining Company. 1884. Cert. #140, issued at New York to Geo. J. Weuck for 25 shares. Inc. in New York. Signed by president Albert Welles . Gold embossed corp. seal. Vignette miners working shaft. Henry Seibert & Bros. printer. Tenney (1929, p. 263), reporting on Pima County, mentions that the Emperor Copper Company was reorganized to exploit the copper deposits of Mineral Hill in 1882 after completion of the railroad. The company had begun development of the deposits and planned to erect a smelter, but when the price of copper slumped in 1884, they abandoned all work on the property. Whether this is the same as the Copper Emperor is not clear.
