Two small checks, both from Ostego County Bank in Cooperstown, New York, which was founded by his father, William. 1842 and 1849. Signed "J. Fenimore Cooper." Each measures approx 2.25" x 6" Minor foxing on 1842 check, otherwise both very good condition. James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851) was a prolific 19th century writer known for his Romantic visions of frontier American life. "The Last of the Mohicans" is considered his greatest work.
