1) Very nice G.T. Brown (famous African American lithographer) stock certificate issued in 1877 for 100 shares. Great vignette of a black panther at top left. The Panther mine is located east and adjoining the Hussey mine. "During the past year new hoisting works have been erected and considerable dead work done. The main shaft has been sunk to a depth of 360 feet, and a crosscut run to the main ledge. Drifts are now being run east and west, following the ledge, which is seven feet wide. Stringers of ore have been met with, carrying mineral, from which good assays have been had. The management hopes to find the same chute of ore at this depth as was found on the upper level. Work is being vigorously pushed ahead at the present time. Total bullion product since incorporation, $21,720.45."(United States Annual Mining Review and Stock Ledger,1879). 2) # 608 issued to J. W. Pew, Trustee for 50 shares and signed by Wm. M. Pierson, President and J. W. Pew, Secretary on June 5, 1877 in San Francisco. Pierson was a long-time early San Francisco lawyer. Certificate is in fragile condition, very faint writing, good to poor condition. Nice vignette of woman with a "Horn of Plenty". The mine struggled to get started as an article in the Engineering & Mining Journal in 1878 reported, "It is rumored that work on the Cornucopia Consolidated mine will soon be started up." I found no reference to any work actually being done." Additional notes include on mines, district, city and Grafton T. Brown.
