Two issued certificates from the Cripple Creek District. 1) The Orphan Gold Mining Company, cert. #1210, issued at Colorado Springs in 1900 to W.M. Boyle, Agent. Signed by Nelson B. Williams as president and W.T. Doubt as secretary. Nice millsite vignette. Owned the Ida Belle, Nos. 1 and 2, and the Orphan No. 1 and 2 on Bull Hill (Hills). Punch cancels. VF. 2) The Portland Gold Mining Company, cert. #7139, issued to Mrs. Elisabeth W. Cook for 2500 shares in 1914. The co. incorporated in Iowa in 1894, and reorganized in Wyoming in 1905. Signed by D.H. Rix as president and Tho. F. Burns as secretary. The Portland mine at Victor had produced a gross value of $40 million from 1894 thru 1917. The company purchased the Independence mine and mill on Battle Mountain in 1915 from the Stratton- Independence Ltd. The Independence had a gross production of over $23 million through 1915. U/C.
