1) Grantz Gold Mining Company. Signed by president Otto P Th Grantz with his picture as the vignette. # 93 for 500 shares to Evelyn Hallett. Simple design with fancy brown border. Grantz is an important Dakota mining man. He is credited with finding the richest gold deposit ever found int the Black Hills at Lead. He arrived in the area in 1876. The vignette is of a shooting star inside a horseshoe frame. Printer was Gast Bank Note of St. Louis. # 242 for an impressively large 39,472 shares to JR Phelan. Signed by president Phalen. Dateline 1901. MOST UNUSUAL horseshoe (not circle) corporate stamp! They were shipping ore as late as 1908 out of the Bear Butte section of the Galena District. Rips, tears and holes.
