Two different. Inc. in Colorado, 1876. 1) No. 604, issued for 100 shares to HW Funston on June 22nd, 1878 in Denver. Signed by Alex. M Cassidy, president, and H.D. Cassidy, secretary. Small (5 x 8.5") certificate with the Colorado state seal surrounded by an eagle and miners. Pinholes, folds, some creasing. 2) 1880 issued stock No. 498 for 100 shares. Also signed by Cassidy as president and E.A. White, Secretary. Not cancelled. Green border with red and black print and a mining vignette. Pinholes, folds, one missing corner. Owned the Silver Cliff mine with assays $20-75/ton. Large masses of ceragyrite (75% silver chloride) of this ore were mined near the surface works which yielded 30-50 oz/ton. At the time of these certificates, Silver Cliff had a population of 5,000. Alex M. Cassidy lived in Colorado for some time before becoming president of this company. In 1862, he purchased oil claims at Oil Springs, Fremont County from Gabriel Bowen. Cassidy sunk six wells that were moderately profitable. The timing of these certificates matches the boom period for the Silver Cliff Mining District.
