Two different. Inc. in Colorado, 1876. 1) No. 941, issued for 100 shares to JA Bowers on Feb. 4, 1879 in Denver. Signed by Alex. M Cassidy, president, and FA White, secretary. Small (5 x 8.5") certificate with the Colorado state seal surrounded by an eagle and miners. Pinholes, cut close left. 2) 1880 issued stock No. 107 for 5 shares to Mark H Barnum. Signed by Cassidy as president and George Keep, Secretary. Not cancelled. Green border with red and black print and a mining vignette. No edge, corner, pinhole or discoloration issues. Excellent! Owned the Silver Cliff mine with assays $20-75/ton. Large masses of ceragyrite (75% silver chloride) of this ore were mined near the surface works which yielded 30-50 oz/ton. At the time of these certificates, Silver Cliff had a population of 5,000. Alex M. Cassidy lived in Colorado for some time before becoming president of this company. In 1862, he purchased oil claims at Oil Springs, Fremont County from Gabriel Bowen. Cassidy sunk six wells that were moderately profitable. The timing of these certificates matches the boom period for the Silver Cliff Mining District. [Ref: Dallas, p174-177; Balch p.1153; Eckel, p.94; Stone, 1918, p.287] Ken Prag Collection
