1) Empire City postmark on white entire with 3c green (U164). San Jose Wells Fargo postmark on reverse. Letter is from F. D. Stadtmuller to his wife. It is a don't worry about me and take care of yourself and the boys letter. Stadtmuller was secretary of the Board of State Capitol Commission that was tasked with building the new State Capitol Building in Carson City. 2) Wells Fargo with 3 cent pink (U21) entire. Sent to Stockton. Note on front cover. Empire City was first laid out in 1860 after the discovery of the Comstock Lode and the subsequent construction of quartz mills on the Carson River. Empire City was the location of several large ore mills, and for miles downriver towards Dayton, the Carson River was lined with saw mills, quartz mills, and settlements for the hundreds of workers from these operations.
