1) Oconee & Western Railroad Company. Pass no. 1549, issued for 1898 to BP Holland of the NVB & Southern RR Co. Signed by general manager England. Countersigned on reverse by Hudson. Very attractive design: fancy logo with Native American woman vignette and vignette of cotton fields. Printed on cardstock by Woodward & Tiernan, St. Louis. Organized in 1892 in Georgia, the Oconee and Western Railroad was founded to take over operations of the failed Empire and Dublin Railroad. The E&D had built a line from Dublin to Hawkinsville, and in 1896 the O&W had started to extend the line to Grovania. 2) Georgia Railroad and Branch Lines and Gainesville, Jefferson & Southern Railroad. Pass no. 569, issued for 1887 to John Henly of the White Star Line Steamers. Signed by general manager Green. Black print on green cardstock. Printed by Rand, McNally & Co. The Gainesville, Jefferson and Southern Railroad, completed in 1884, consisted of two lines from Gainesville to Jefferson and Social Circle, splitting at Belmont. The Georgia Railroad dates back to the 1830s and was used by the Confederacy during the Civil War to transport gunpowder.
