1) San Diego Land & Traction Company stock issued to the late Benjamin P. Cheney, father of the company president, and his family on May 12, 1898. Signed by Cheney as president and the treasurer. Not cancelled. Vignette of Native American warrior. At the time of this certificate, Benjamin Pierce Cheney Jr. was director of Wells Fargo. He was the son of Benjamin P. Cheney, founder of American Express and a famous expressman for the company. Jr. replaced his father as director of Wells Fargo after his father's death in 1895. He also was active in the Santa Fe railroad system. 2) Unissued 1880s stock for Pleasant Valley Land and Water Company. Vignettes of fruit and a woman. Winchester.
