Lot of 2 different Lawrence & Houseworth (San Francisco) of the mine office of the Chollar Mine in Virginia City. Both stereoviews are dated 1865. No. 732. "Chollar Mining Works, Virginia City" and No. 733. "Six-Mile Canon--From Office of Chollar Works." Both stamped on the back for Lawrence & Houseworth, Opticians, Importers of Stereoscopic Goods, Etc., 317 & 319 Montgomery St., San Francisco. Good contrast, medium focus. Some soiling. The Chollar Mine, staked as a placer claim in 1859, is located between the Hale & Norcross and Potosi mines. It was involved in a lawsuit with the Potosi in the 1860s, and the two companies were merged for a number of years.
