Two Memorandums of Assay of Bullion deposited at Van Wyck & Co. Assay Office by the Savage Mining Company thru two different mills, the Mariposa and the Central Mill. Both dated May 1865. The receipt for the Central Mill includes two deposits with one being noted as "clay bullion." The Mariposa deposit is 1,055 oz., .951 fineness silver. Folds, light wear. Printed on thin paper, 5" x 13.5". At this point in Comstock history, the Savage Mine was splitting their ore among the various small mills. The Central Mill was built in 1860 and located on D, Mill, and E St. in Virginia City with an assay office, storehouse, carpenter and blacksmith shops and employee lodging. It handled the richest ores from the Gould & Curry and Savage during the 1860s. The Mariposa Mill was located in Sevenmile Canyon south of the Sierra Nevada Mine. It was owned by the Bank of California in the mid 1860s and the Bonanza Firm in 1873. [Ref: Ansari]. Date: City: Virginia City State: Nevada HWAC# 50906
