Because George Pullman earlier had patented the sleeping car, Mann produced sleeping cars in Europe for several years. He returned to the United States and tried to establish Mann's Boudoir Car Company as a viable competitor to Pullman. Over a six-year period, Mann's Boudoir Car produced 41 lavish cars.
