Two engraved certificates printed by banknote companies. 1)Utah Consolidated Mining Company (NJ), cert. #A45074, issued at New York in 1910. The company controlled the Highland Boy GMC of New Jersey, which held direct title to the Utah property. Also owned 5,000 shares of the International Smelting and Refining Co. which cost $500,000, and paid $40,000 in dividends yearly. Held 31 claims patented known as the Highland Boy group, in Carr Fork Canon, circa 2 1/2 miles from Bingham Canyon (Stevens, 1910). Miners working their drills underground. Franklin Lee Bank Not Co., N.Y. Unc. 2)Utah and Eastern Copper Company (WV), cert. #33, issued at New Haven, Ct. in 1901 for 20 shares. The company mine office was at Dixie and their works office was at Shem, both in Washington County. Lands: 11 claims patented circa 220 acres plus a 40 acre smelter site. Included the old Dixie mine, in the Tutsagubet or Cave Springs district, near Green River. The company produced over 1.4 million lbs. of fine copper in 1904. Closed in 1907, due to the depression in the metals market. Lack of a rail connection didn't help (1908 Copper Handbook). Miners working underground vignette. VF.
