1) Crater Gold Mining Company. Number 4 for 5000 shares to Fred Anglewier in 1904. Signed by John Beekman and MH Kunzle. Hole created by seal, otherwise in find condition. 2) Gold Crater Mining Company. Number and date never entered. Back shows date fo 1907. #00 shares to CA Small. Signed by W Hoodland(?) and WE (?). Vignette of miner sloading ore cart underground. Good condition. By September 1904 more than 200 miners had flocked to the mining camp of Gold Crater, but most soon left. During May of the same year, a discovery was made on Pahute Mesa that attracted miners to the district. During the height of the excitement over Gold Crater, a water pipeline was planned from Stonewall Mountain, ten miles to the east. But the boom subsided before the pipeline could be built. The town was almost empty during the winter of 1904. The following year some leasers returned to work some claims in Gold Crater. The leasers left soon after 1905 and the district was quiet until 1914. There were two attempts to revive the district, one in 1914 and the other in the late 1930s. Both were unsuccessful. Today, the site is part of the Nellis Air Force bombing range. (B ennett Collection) Date: 1904, 1907 Location: Gold Crater, Nevada HWAC# 60221
