Denver was a California 49er, Colorado miner, namesake of a major city and Territorial Governor in Texas. He was very sympathetic to the Native Americans and spent time in Washington D. C. as Commissioner of Indian Affairs. 1) Advertising takes up 1/3 of the cover. For Hughes, Denver & Peck; attorneys and Counsellors-at-law. Dated Dec. 8 (no year). Striking piece! 2) J. W. Denver, Attorney-at-Law. Dated May 6, 1878. Yellow envelope. Both were sent to his wife who was living in Wilmington, Ohio.
