Rare pair of manuscript scrip from the ACMI in Taylor and Pine Top, Arizona. 1) Dateline Taylor, AT, Dec. 21, 1890. Addressed to A.C.M.I., the Arizona Co-operative Mercantile Institution, in Holbrook. "Please pay J.D. Arnold in goods one dollar and fifty cents." Signed by J.W. Knight. 7 x 4.5" Ink stains. 2) Dateline Pine Top Ariz., April 18th, 1892. Addressed to John R. Hulst, sup. A.C.M.I. "Please pay the bearer John Hall $2.75 in mdse." Stamped Paid ACMI, Holbrook. 8 x 5" Staining on top, rough edge. Founded in 1881, the ACMI was the Arizona version of the ZCMI (Zion's Cooperative Mercantile Institution) in Salt Lake City. The ACMI was originally begun as a wholesaler for Mormon towns in the region, purchasing supplies at prices that individual settlements could not command.
