Stocks from two copper mining companies that operated in the Seven Devils mining district. 1)Boston and Seven Devils Copper Company (NJ), cert. #49, issued in 1899 to Everett Townsend for 100 shares. Signed by Lewis A. Hall as president and Ira G. Hersey as treasurer. In 1898, the Pacific and Idaho Northern was advancing from Weiser to the Seven Devils mines. The Boston and Seven Devils Copper Company acquired a number of small claims, the main one being the Arkansas, 5 miles upstream from Cuprum. For $1 million, they acquired the Peacock, Helena and White Monument group from the American Mining Company (Idaho State Historical Society, history.idaho.gov website). The boom at Seven Devils continued until about 1902. VF. Unc. 2)Seven Devils Copper Company (AZ), issued in 1911 to Wm. K. MacNamera for 1000 shares. Signed by John Bull, Jr. as president and Fred D. Smith as secretary. The company held 15 claims including the Arkansas, Decorah and Margaret mines, 14 miles from a railway. The company was taking power from the Oxbow station of the Oregon-Idaho Power Co. and there was a sawmill near the mine. The company was working to develop 450,000 tons of ore, of both concentrating and smelting grades (1910 Copper Handbook). VF. Unc.City: Seven DevilsCounty: WashingtonState: IDDate: 1899-1911
