Stamp mills were the go-to technology for breaking down quartz-rich gold and silver ores throughout the American West and elsewhere. This lot include the major pieces of a stamp mill that could be reconstructed for display. Included are the main cam shaft and giant wooden wheel (5-foot diameter, 6-foot axle length, 5-inch axle diameter) with two 29-inch diameter cams (19.5 inches apart, center-to-center with 5.75-inch diameter hubs). There are two solid iron stamps, each 15.25 feet long with 3.25-inch shafts, stamp feet that are 14.5 inches long and 8.5 inches in diameter with shoes that are also 8.5 inches in diameter and 9 inches long. The cam lifters are 11 inches long and 8.5 inches in diameter. The driver shaft axle is 98 inches long and 2.5 inches in diameter. It has a wooden wheel that is 26 inches in diameter and 9.75 inches wide, an iron wheel that is 24 inches in diameter and 6.75 inches wide, and a smaller iron wheel that is 12 inches in diameter and 11 inches wide. The ore feeder assembly has a rectangular wooden frame that is 42 x 42 x 49 inches with a tapered metal feeder that is 40 x 36 x 33 inches at the top. The opening at the bottom tapers to 12 x 22.5 inches. A belt tensioner/idler mechanism has a 72 x 14 x 7 inch wooden frame on which is mounted a 68 x 7375 x 2 inch tubular metal frame. This holds an 6.25-inch diameter, 8.5-inch wide idler pulley. Another idler pulley is on a smaller mechanism separate from the first one. Nice setup for education or demonstration. See photos for details.
