44 Caliber first model rimfire carbine circa 1859-1864. Possibly one of the military issued carbines released after Gettysburg. 24 inch octagonal barrel. The stock has a factory flattening along the underside of the butt stock. Crescent butt piece. Some toe damage that is repairable. Three position folding leaf sight has been replaced with a simple "V" style rear sight. Original front sight is a German silver blade type. There is a hole in the rear trigger guard, possibly for a removed sling swivel. All markings are worn. A nice piece of antique Americana.
