1) Sonora, California. # 50,927 for $700 to agent WH Simmons. 1856. Simmons endorses on back to Eliza A Crandall. Very nice condition. Sonora is the county seat of Tuolumne County, California. Founded by Mexican miners—reminiscent of the state of Sonora, Mexico—during the California Gold Rush, Sonora was once a booming center of industry and trade in California's Mother Lode. Most of the gold that was removable with traditional mining techniques was quickly extracted, leaving miners to use more complex and expensive mining techniques to reach deep pockets of quartz and gold. 2) Columbia, California. # 176, 759 for $500 to Wm. Daegner agent. 1858. Endorsed on back to Gustavus A Hunt. This exchange has seen better days with heavy tape marks on reverse. Columbia is a town located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, in Tuolumne County, California, United States. It was founded as a boomtown in 1850 when gold was found in the vicinity, and was known as the "Gem of the Southern Mines."
