Two Plank Road certificates, Burlington and Mount Pleasant Plank Road company, early number 75 issued to William Endsley (signed on reverse) for one share, November 24, 1849, signed by president Francis Peasley and secretary Thomas Hedge. Paid in full notes on reverse. The second is the Mt. Pleasant, Trenton, Deedsville, and Brighton plank road and bridge company of Trenton, Iowa. Number 182 issued for $50.00 on February 4, 1852, to the city of Burlington, Iowa on March 5, 1851, signed by Jay Evans as president and secretary Cameron. Not canceled. Plank Road company certificates as a whole are scarce. A Turnpike is an early form of a paid road.
