Six pictorial checks from the United States Depository in Denver. 1) Eagle vignette at left. January 30, 1886. Sam P. Barber is getting paid $52. Blue font and vignette. Crisp. Says on check that this is "Especially Authorized by the Secy of Treasury to Receive Deposits of U.S. Disbursing Officers Under Act of Congress Approved June 14th, 1866." 2) A set of five of the same style checks issued 1903-1905, all with vignette of Edwin M. Stanton who served as Secy of War for Lincoln during the Civil War. All are stamped Denver, Colorado/ First National Bank. Four are labelled "Paymasters" and the other is "Subsistence." Signed by the Lt. Col., Deputy Post Master General (DPMG). Folds and punched PAID. (Prag Collection)
