This book "U.S. Military Holsters and Cartridge Boxes" by Edward Meadows may arguably be the most comprehensive study on holsters in American history. Hardcover at pp. 430, red leather cover and gold embossed lettering, no DJ, slightly rounded corners in very good condition. The author begins his study at the onset of the military from the flintlock period, including the percussion era horse pistol holsters changing to belt holsters in 1861 Ordnance due to the acceptance of the model 1851 Colt Navy belt pistol. That changed everything. Well illustrated with B&W photos. The appendix lists all Rock Island employees and inspectors making leather goods. A list of manufacturers is also listed. Many ordnance blueprints for holster construction is included and dated. If you collect military pistols you will eventually need this book. Please see photos for details.
